A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been entered into between the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC®) and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL). The MOU represents a commitment by both organisations to collaborate on areas of mutual interest around human development, digital transformation of educational systems and e-learning.
Specific objectives include sharing continuing education and teacher professional development resources and materials and promoting joint efforts in capacity building for skilled and competent citizens (learners, teachers and professionals) in the region.
Mr Richard Rose, Corporate Communications Manager – Office of the Registrar for CXC®, presided over the virtual signing event and introduced Professor Peter Scott, President of COL.
In his remarks, Professor Scott stated, “Through our partnership with CXC®, we will strive to create innovative learning opportunities for these individuals, empowering them to re-engage with education and acquire the skills necessary for personal and professional growth.”
Dr Eduardo Ali, Pro-Registrar and Deputy CEO, CXC®, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership and emphasised that “this collaboration is a significant step towards fulfilling CXC’s mission of developing the Caribbean population for success in the global market, as it is crucial for their long-term growth and prosperity and that it resonates with the strategic repositioning of CXC®.”
The remarks were followed by the virtual signing by the organisational signatories, with staff from COL and CXC® in attendance.
The MOU will be in place for a period of four years from 2024 and covers the support of teacher professional development through CXC’s Professional Learning Institute. In addition, CXC® will have access to COL’s open educational resources and courses. COL will work with CXC® to build teacher and educational professional capacity in the region.
